iPhone 4S – Worth the Wait?

So, after an extraordinary few months of speculation, Apple unveiled their newest version of the iPhone.

October 4th 2011, Apple announced the all new iPhone 4S!

This may not be the brand new anticipated iPhone 5 everyone was expecting, but don’t be fooled by the exterior. The all new iPhone 4S is proving that the anticipation was worth the wait.  In hindsight, it’s rather hard to understand quite how virtually every tech ‘expert’, blogger, commentator and analyst became convinced that a redesigned iPhone 5 was on the cards. One thing’s for sure – Apple made no such suggestion, so it would appear to have been entirely based on rumors alone.

The 4S is hardly a game-changer, but from our perspective it makes perfect sense. As with the transition from iPhone 3G to 3GS, the 4S brings some significant incremental improvements, including an upgraded 8MP camera and much faster processor. This does not mean that Apple is stealing the reigns from Android devices, but it certainly keeps the iPhone competitive from a hardware perspective. Add iOS 5 into the mix and there’s plenty of reason to expect that the iPhone 4S will be just as successful as its predecessors.

And of course iOS 5 is really the most significant release Apple is making next week – available free of charge to existing iPhone 3GS and 4 customers. We have already tested CoPilot Live with the new version OS – it is compatible – and we are working on ways to exploit its new features further.

Other significant details also announced at the event included a cheaper 8GB iPhone 4 and a 64GB capacity iPhone 4S, both of which will surely maintain Apple’s momentum in the smartphone market.

And so the iPhone 5 rumor mill can continue-on relentlessly, and maybe people’s expectations of Apple will settle back down to earth a little. All those hoping for a slimmer iPhone with a larger screen will just have to wait … or of course consider going for the excellent Samsung Galaxy SII.

We would love to hear your opinions on the new iPhone 4S announcement. Were you disappointed? Or  has your excitement increased?

GPS wise it would have been nice to get a slightly larger screen, and I really hope siri can be implimented into apps in the future. I really wise you guys gave use navteq maps and navteq lane assist and speed based routing cause tomtom seems to be the winenr in the routing department, but I really like your interface so I really hope you guys can catchup. Also a mute speech button would have to be my favorite option on the tomtom app which is implemented with only 2 presses from the guidance map. Your traffic is way awesome in comparison though. I really want to use your app but I just dont feel safe with the guidance/map accuracy

The iPhone 4S seems to be amazing. I am uncertain though if the display is large enough for me – I have an Android Phone now. Hmmm decisions, decisions.
