Traveling Tips for this 4th of July

July 4th is almost here and I think we all know it’s going to be a HOT one!  With this year’s holiday falling in the middle of the week, you may be tempted to take a few extra days off and enjoy the 4th to the fullest. Before you load up your car and hit the road to wherever you’re headed, we thought we’d share a few helpful travel tips provided by Defensive Driving Now  to ensure a safe and fun holiday!

Before You Start Your Trip:

  • - Check to ensure that the vehicle has been properly maintained. Items to check include the air conditioner, tires, and engine coolant to name a few.
  • - Fill up with fuel.
  • - Plan your trip ahead of time to find the best route and avoid holiday traffic.

HINT….we know a great GPS app called CoPilot Live that lets you plan and edit a trip to find the most efficient route and has a built-in traffic feature that will automatically provide the fastest route through traffic :-)

  • - Pack the car and double check to make sure all luggage is secure so it does not become a distraction or hazard later on.

On the Road:

  • - Try to avoid driving at dusk or dawn so the sun does not hinder your ability to drive
  • - Stay alert and focused on the driving task
  • - Remember to take breaks often (every 2 hours is recommended) to stretch your legs, grab a drink or snack and hit the road again.

Once You’ve Arrived:
