We hope you’re enjoying your offline route planning and local exploring app.  Our new free app is now just over a week old and so far we are delighted to see it soaring up the App Store charts in many countries.

As a result of the huge increase in downloads, our servers are working overtime to make sure you can activate the app and download your selected map region as quickly as possible.  We are aware that some customers have experienced some difficulties activating the app. Please rest assured that we are currently adding additional capacity to cope with this unprecedented demand.

We would also like to remind our CoPilot Live Premium customers that our free GPS app is not a replacement for your current app. CoPilot GPS does provides trip planning and on-board maps for free, however voice-guided turn by turn navigation, 3D maps and ActiveTraffic™ are an additional paid cost.

We have some exciting plans for CoPilot Live Premium and we’ll be introducing a variety of great new features and enhancements over the upcoming months.

We’ve released a complete map update featuring our latest 2011 Q4 map data for all North America & USA CoPilot Live Premium iOS and Android customers. 

This adds thousands of new miles of roads in the U.S. and Canada and hundreds of map improvements submitted by customers.

Here’s how to get the latest quarterly map update:

• For iPhone & iPad  CoPilot Live Premium customers: You can download the latest free Quarterly map update via the latest application update in your iTunes.  For North America customers:  Version 9.1.0.269 and for USA customers:  Version 9.1.0.296
• For Android CoPilot Live Premium customers: You can download the latest version of maps directly from your phone using CoPilot Live. Within the app, go to MyCoPilot > My Maps and you will receive a prompt that a new version of your maps is available.  Click OK to begin the download. 
  ****Please note the 2011 Q4 map data was available for Android customers in February 2012 so you may have already downloaded the new maps.  We are simply reminding you it is available in case you haven’t taken advantage of it!  If you’re not sure if you have the latest maps, in your CoPilot app go to Settings> About CoPilot Live.  In the second box you should see Data:  GRD_ALK.NA.2011.04.5.31.6.1, this means you have the latest 2011 Q4 map data.

ActiveTraffic uses the highest quality traffic information to automatically calculate the fastest route to your destination based on real-time traffic conditions. It continuously monitors your route for delays as you drive and will alert you if a quicker route is available.

Detailed Alternate Route Preview – Know exactly what you’re getting yourself into BEFORE you detour

With ActiveTraffic you will receive an alert if CoPilot has identified a faster route through traffic—based on the actual road conditions at that moment—to your destination. The alert will display the new suggested route along with the amount of travel time it will take you compared to your original route. This allows you to make an educated decision on whether or not to accept the alternate route. For example, perhaps the alternate route will save you 25 minutes but you don’t want to leave a main road because you’re running dangerously low on gas.  In this case, the original route may be the better choice. See screenshots below.

Accurate and Reliable ETAs – Know exactly when you’re going to arrive

ActiveTraffic uses real-time traffic speeds and location reports, to maintain a realistic estimated time of arrival (ETA) throughout your drive—one that is based on the actual road conditions now and not from 30 or 45 minutes ago. For example, if you’re on your way to pick up your son from pre-school and run into traffic, you can call ahead and let them know you’re running late and what time they can expect you.

At-a-Glance Display of Traffic Conditions – Know what you’re driving into

ActiveTraffic is designed to make sure you’re constantly informed of what’s ahead of you and what you can expect throughout your trip. If you choose, you can display a dynamic traffic bar alongside your map that provides a color-coded view of real-time traffic flow along your route. You can actually see how far ahead the traffic congestion goes. Sections of the route where traffic is flowing freely are in green, those with moderate congestion in yellow and severe congestion in red. And here’s a tip, tap the traffic bar at any time if you want to quickly view the Traffic Map, which shows traffic flow on the route and in the surrounding area.
