CoPilot Live To The Rescue!

Regular visitors to this blog will know that our posts are mostly focussed on our consumer navigation apps. However CoPilot Live is also increasingly becoming the navigation software of choice for large fleets who typically equip their mobile personnel with GPS-enabled devices.

When it comes to business navigation, we tend to talk about ‘deployments’ rather than individual apps, and usually these involve ‘CoPilot Live Professional’ – a highly customisable version of CoPilot Live – being deployed to thousands of vehicles at a time. Many large companies, for example the UK’s Royal Mail, have already equipped their fleets with CoPilot Live Professional, fully integrated within their mobile worker management solutions.

The latest major organisation to ‘go CoPilot’ is the UK’s ‘4th emergency service’ The Automobile Association.

Prior to the project, the AA was faced with a couple of business challenges. Existing dedicated Personal Navigation Devices (PNDs) being used by patrol vehicles were becoming dated, costly to support and were not particularly useful for finding remote locations. Meanwhile new Duty of Care legislation relating to lone mobile workers now requires the organisation to know the whereabouts of their patrols at all times.

The AA’s solution was to replace their existing standalone PND + laptop solution with a single dash-mounted, (AA yellow!) GPS-enabled Panasonic Toughbook equipped with CoPilot Live navigation.

The CoPilot Live Professional software development kit has enabled The AA to completely integrate full-featured turn by turn navigation into their existing customer service system. Exact GPS coordinates of the location of a member requiring assistance are automatically sent directly to the relevant patrol’s CoPilot Live laptop-based navigation system, avoiding the need to enter the destination manually. This is particularly helpful for reaching motorists in those ‘middle of nowhere’ locations without a specific address.

The AA is now also able to locate their patrol vehicles at anytime, which helps to better allocate available vehicles more efficiently and address their duty of care employee responsibilities. In the future, the system may be able to provide additional benefits, for example using real-time ETA information to inform members precisely when a patrol will reach them

So if you are an AA member who in need of assistance, you’ll know that that your patrol vehicle will be able to come to your rescue as quickly and efficiently as possible thanks to CoPilot Live!
