London, UK – 28 Feb 2011 – ALK Technologies, one of the world’s leading providers of mobile navigation apps and Renault Trucks, one of the main trucks manufacturers, announced Renault NavTruck, a custom-developed turn-by-turn GPS navigation app for professional drivers based on ALK’s CoPilot Truck software platform.
Initially available for iPhone, Renault NavTruck provides truck-specific routes, guidance and maps throughout Europe. It avoids restricted and unsuitable roads based on vehicle dimensions and load type, helping to prevent delivery delays, accidents and costly fines.
Renault NavTruck guides drivers to their destinations with detailed spoken directions and clear non-distracting 3D map displays. On-screen alerts warn the driver about potential truck hazards ahead or if a wrong turn along a restricted route is taken. Vehicle and load dimensions can be saved as individual profiles making it easy to switch between different trucks. Up to 50 stops or waypoints can be entered into an individual itinerary, with trip optimisation and toll road avoidance options to calculate the most efficient route.
Renault NavTruck includes high quality NAVTEQ street maps enhanced with NAVTEQ Transport™ commercial vehicle attributes. It contains the location of thousands of low bridges, narrow roads, truck hazards and truck-restricted roads. Thousands of useful Points Of Interest for professional drivers are also preloaded including Renault Truck service locations.
Michael Kornhauser, Managing Director, CoPilot Live Division says “We are delighted to enter into a strategic relationship with Renault Truck to introduce this breakthrough to the market. With CoPilot Truck technology at its core, Renault NavTruck customers will benefit from the most advanced commercial vehicle routing available in the market today. “.
“This navigation app is the main basic missing for an intelligent transport of goods. When the drivers will have tested NavTruck, they won’t expect to do without,” says Bruno Chazalette, Soft offer strategic planning Vice President, Renault Truck.
Renault NavTruck will initially available for the iPhone in Europe with additional form factors and operating systems to follow.
