We’re just released a new update for our CoPilot Live Premium Apps through the Android Market and the CoPilot Live web-site.
This update includes a variey of performance improvements and fixes, as well as the ability to import custom POI databases.
Here’s instructions for importing custom POIs:
Firstly, you’ll need to ensure your custom POI database is in the correct format:
CoPilot Live can read the following POI file formats:CSV, OV2
You will need to to enter columns in the first row
You must have the following six column headings in your list: latitude, longitude, name, city, country and phone.
You can also import custom POI icons, JEPEG, BMP, or PNG images should all be compatible.
Importing your POIs
- Download the latest CoPilot Live app update (version 9.1.0.135) from the Android Market or using the link you were emailed in your order confirmation if purchased via the CoPilot Store.
- Once you’ve completed the installation of the app update, you’ll need to close your CoPilot Live before continuing to the next step
- Connect your device to a computer using a USB cable
- Drag the Android status bar downwards to open the notifications panel. Select USB connection, then choose the option to mount the memory card on your computer
- Browse to the com.alk.copilot.* directoryon your memory card and open the Save folder
- Drag and drop your custom POI list and icons from your computer to the Save folder
- Unmount the memory card from your computer
- Start CoPilot Live on your mobile device
- Enter a name for the list you imported
Select a POI category from the lis or create a new one. To set up a new POI category, tap NEW Catergory, then enter a category name of your choice and pick a POI image for it.

CoPilot Live will then automatically import your custom POIs.
That’s it! You’re now ready to enter a POI as a destination and navigate there.
We hope that you enjoy this feature. And, if you like it or have any other feedback for us then let us know here on the CoPilot Live blog.

Any updates coming for live8 or is this now forgotten about by copilot? Seems you are pushing this new version and leaving the live8 version to die a death
Hi Stephen – we continue to support v8 and there will be a further update.
Could you please just clarify the column headers needed for the POI file? Only 6 are listed above, yet you say there must be 7.
Are you intending users to be able to post and share their POI files on your site?
Hi Ian – its 6 headings – apologies – I’ve updated the blog. There are no current plans to provide a POI sharing facility on our website currently, although its an idea worth considering.
If you enter a POI and then want to update it with a different address or delete it, how do I do that? Also, the column headrers confuse me as there are only 6 but you say there should be 7.
Hi Stuart – my apologies – that should have been 6 rather than seven – I’ve updated the blog. With regards to updating the POIs – can I direct you to our support team? http://www.copilotlive.com/support
Works perfectly with the OV2 files I have tested – 5 times. Excellent!
Are all 7 columns required?? you only mention 6.
have attempted to import a csv file, When I go to find POI’s and show on map the position is incorrect. what format is required for the latitude and longitude??
Hi Neil – Apologies – its six headings – I have updated the blog.
This is only one feature that were missing from 8th release,
1 no own pois : OK Now
2 no warning sound for pois
3 no GPS Track Playback
4 no Live Link
5 Safety Alerts not always
6 Cant manage pois
7 the app locks so you must force stop the program: OK Now
8 no PC program to update the phone
9 how do I know that the News and Updates is working, in 8th you see the
progress, in 9th you didn’t see anything !
Please let me know when the app is upgrade from a pre beta to a sharp
release!!!!
I would like to know if you plan to release map update for Europe?
If you can zoom in Speed Limit Alerts.
Thanks
After many years of using TomTom devices I now have a Samsung Europa and downloaded the CoPilot Live for it, I also have a membership subscription to Pocket GPS World and was wondering if it is possible to integrate the speed camera database which is in CSV format to CoPilot without having to purchase their app
Hi Kevin
CoPilot Live Premium comes equipped with its own Safety Camera database – I’d refer you back to PocketGPSWorkd in relation to your other question.
I’ve followed these steps, but can’t get it to work. If you create a new category, as you’ve done here and entered ‘tesco’, if you then go to the Main Menu -> Points of Interest -> More Categories, am I supposed to find the new ‘tesco’ category here at the top level?
I’ve imported the POI, named the category, but the new category doesn’t seem to appear.
Seems there was a problem with the specific OV2 file that I was trying to import, it recognised its existence but silently failed to actually import it. I’ve got a support issued raised (Incident: 120104-000167) so I hope you guys can fix it.
