Just about a week until the 2012 Olympics begin, but are Londoners prepared for the road changes that are in force until the end of the Games? According to a new survey that we’ve commissioned from YouGov, over one in four Londoners (28%) had not even heard of the Olympic Route Network (ORN) – the network of routes designated for official vehicles…
Un-clarity of the London 2012 Olympic Route Network
Despite the highly visible Get Ahead of the Games media campaign that’s been running in the lead-up to the games, the majority of Londoners are apparently unclear about where and when Olympic Route Network (ORN) applies, with 71% unsure of the dates it will start and finish and 73% not knowing the roads it will cover. Linking all competition venues and other key sites, such as Heathrow Airport, some parts of the ORN (109 miles in London, 170 miles outside) will be closed to the general public during the London 2012 Games, which could lead to drivers becoming delayed or even lost.
Games lines, covering 35 miles (56km) of the ORN in Greater London, will be used by 80,000 members of the “Games family”, including:
- Athletes and technical officials (18,000 during Olympics/6,000 during Paralympics)
- Media (28,000)
- International Olympic and International Paralympic Committees
- Games partners and guests (25,000)
Traffic during the London 2012 Games
64% of the Londoners are concerned about the traffic disruption in London during the upcoming Games, with recent traffic problems like the closure of the M4 only adding to this. This is reflected by a quarter (25%) of those surveyed planning to avoid the capital completely during the Olympics.
To avoid disruption:
- 21% aim to walk more
- 19% plan to use public transport more
- 11% will work more from home
- 10% will go on a holiday during the Olympics to get away completely
- 7% will use a bicycle
Special 2012 Features Coming to CoPilot Live Premium

We advise those drivers intending to drive in Central London over the next few weeks to certainly plan ahead, and it has to be hoped that traffic issues won’t steal the headlines from the epic sporting achievements to come!

Thanks for some other excellent post. Exactly where else could just anyone get that type of info in such an perfect means of writing? I’ve a presentation next week, and I’m at the search for such info.
Why make it only available until the 27th of July.
I was away on holiday when this email came through and now I am back I have missed the chance to add this to the otherwise excellent service and system.
