A few weeks ago we updated our free Android and iOS CoPilot GPS apps to version 9.3 with updated maps and a variety of improvements based on user feedback. Now we are proud to announce that the app has been downloaded 2 million times since launching in May. It just goes to show how popular a free on-board/offline mapping app can be.
We are excited to see how popular CoPilot GPS has been for new-to-CoPilot smartphone and tablet users worldwide – including in some emerging markets for CoPilot like Brazil (count me in for road-testing duties!). We’re also delighted that so many of our CoPilot Live v8 customers have installed the app and activated full-featured navigation in-app for free (here is how if you haven’t done it already).
To celebrate this milestone, and for a limited time only, we are offering some great discounts on in-app upgrades in CoPilot GPS, with up to 50% off turn by turn 3D navigation and extra map regions. So whether you are a free user who’d like to get the full voice-guided CoPilot sat nav experience, or an existing customer who needs maps of Europe, Australasia or elsewhere, there’s never been a better time to upgrade! With the clocks having changed, frost in Hyde Park and first snow on the ground in Scotland, it really feels as though we are heading into winter. For many of us, this means driving to and from work in darkness and on foggy, icy roads.
A recent study by the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents found more than 3,000 miles of motorways and trunk roads are in darkness during the evening and 70 %t of the motorway network is not lit at night - this is a concern as they also reported that twice as many crashes on motorways are fatal where there are no street lights.
The reasons behind organisations such as the Highways Agency reducing lighting include environmental as well as economic factors, however driver safety should also be an important factor affecting the decisions. Our own research has found that we are a nation of rather cautious drivers, with over half of British drivers avoiding roads in the dark. Based on the results of the YouGov survey, driving safely in the dark is a concern for most drivers, with 58 % of respondents feeling least safe on rural roads at night. Over half (55 %) say they are less likely to use short cuts in the dark and prefer to stick to well-lit main roads. Read More
Back in September we wanted to celebrate especially the iPhone5 and Galaxy Note2 launch and to decide the prize we asked you whether you would prefer an iPad or a Google Nexus 7 tablet. Read More
Once again, an Apple product launch has dominated the tech news, this time for the unveiling of the iPad mini. The new tablet is lighter, thinner and of course a little smaller than the full-size iPad. It’s also a little cheaper, although still significantly more expensive than similar sized Android tablets like Google’s Nexus 7.
Here at CoPilot sat nav, we are excited about the iPad mini. Ever since we first launched an HD version of CoPilot Live designed specifically for iPad, we’ have been continually surprised by the number of people who use their tablets for in-car navigation. On Android we have seen the Nexus 7 storm into the top 10 most popular device for CoPilot, while the Samsung Galaxy Note has been in our top 3 all year.
The 4G iPad mini seems like a perfect addition to little tablet range, and CoPilot’s ready for it. Read More
